But thanks to the addition of a climate-controlled greenhouse at Sai Villa, many exotic flowering and fruit-bearing plants that typically thrive in warm climates—like those found in Southern U.S., India, or Southeast Asia—can now be grown and enjoyed throughout the year.

🌡️ Overcoming the Challenges of Growing Tropical Plants in NJ

– Temperature Control: The greenhouse at Sai Villa is kept between 60–85°F during winter using basic heating and thermal insulation techniques.
– Humidity & Watering: Humidifiers and a drip watering system keep plants hydrated and mimic tropical conditions.
– Space Constraints: It’s a small greenhouse, so we prioritize raised beds, hanging pots, and movable containers to house the plants.
– Seasonal Rotation: Most of the flowering and fruit plants are grown in pots, making it easier to move them outdoors from May 15 to October 15, and back inside for winter protection.
